Chase Darkness with Me Book Review
Hello,
I adore Billy Jenson so of course, I read his book. It was a struggle cause I had to wait for the paperback to come out.
If you don’t know who Billy is, then you are fucking missing out. Cause this man is a gem. He is a true-crime journalist. He is also a podcaster and happens to be on literally 2 of the best true crime podcasts out there. The first one being Jensen and Holes: The Murder Squad which he does with Paul Holes where they go over unsolved cases in hopes of solving them. Seriously, they have a website with all the information they covered on the cases that you can get lost in for hours. The second podcast being The First Degree with Alexis Linkletter and Jac Vanek, with this one they talk to people who are one degree away from a murder. If you don’t listen to either of these go subscribe they are very well done and binge-worthy.
I first found out about Billy from My Favorite Murder when Michelle McNamara died. He is one of the 2 guys (the other being Paul Haynes) who helped finish her book “I’ll be Gone in the Dark”. Which you hear about in this book. He writes so beautifully about his friendship with Michelle and their friendship that when it gets to the part where he finds out she died I had to collect myself cause I started crying. Actually, the way He talks about the friendships he has made in the True Crime world makes my heart happy.
In this book, Billy talks about his childhood and the things his father taught him. How he first got into True Crime, then how long it took him to actually be able to write about it since he was a sports writer for a while. Once he does get into writing about the true crime, he walks you through the step on how he uses Social Media to help catch the bad guy. I wasn’t really aware of how the process worked until this book. He tells you about the cases he has covered and the things he has done to help the family get justice. You are going to hear about the few successes and a lot of downfalls that come with this job and its processes. Honestly, this book will inspire you to start trying to solve crimes. Which if you want to do that I suggest you follow Billy on everything cause he is always posting about things. Also, he is just Delight of a person.
The Book's Official Site It’s got all the info you could ask for and where to buy the book. Most places I’ve seen have it for around $15.
